CommonKind’s mission is as simple as its name: to make kindness common in our everyday actions.
We believe that to make kindness common in our everyday actions, it needs to be practiced just like any other skill. We teach young people social skills that positively impact our everyday interactions with others. This affects the lives of young people today by helping to create in them the confidence and skills to make friends, succeed in school, and enjoy time with family. These skills have a long-term impact on the lives of our students: learning not to begin eating until your host eats shows up as learning to be aware of others needs in many situations throughout life; learning to shake hands when meeting someone today becomes making a positive impression during a job or college interview tomorrow.
Because we believe in the power of practicing kindness in simple, everyday actions, our classes focus on daily rituals, especially those that take place around the table, welcoming guests into one’s home, and meeting others in social situations wherein diverse people come together to enjoy simple pleasures that connect us: family, friends, and food.
More than ever before, tomorrow’s leaders need to be equipped with an attitude that shows moral and ethical competency, respect for different cultures in our local and world community, and compassion for all. At CommonKind we believe that even when we are in our familiar surroundings, we have an opportunity to be compassionate, responsible world citizens, by showing kindness to ourselves and those around us.
